Loudon County District Announcements
ONE OF OUR OWN
Our own Sarah Watkins is being recognized by Junior Achievement of East Tennessee as "Outstanding Teacher Educator" Tuesday August 31. Mrs. Watkins has the incredible role of building and maintaining community relationships with the many volunteers of Junior Achievement. It is through these relationships and consistent communication that have helped to build the JA program here at North Middle School.
Junior Achievement is the world's largest organization dedicated to inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in a global economy. Through a dedicated voluteer network, JA Worldwide provides in-school and after-school programs for students which focus on three key content areas: work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. Today, 138 individual area operations reach more than four million students in the United States and more than 15,000 students locally.
Junior Achievement enables young people to understand business, citizenship, economics, entrepreneurship, ethics/character, financial literacy and work readiness. The programs also encourage confidence and motivate young people to achieve their personal, educational, and career goals. For more information, visit www.easttennessee.ja.org.
CONGRATULATIONS Mrs. Watkins on your continued dedication to the students of Loudon County and North Middle, a Well-Deserved Honor!

Free Flu Mist Through the Schools!
For the third year in a row, the Loudon County Health Department will be administering free Flu Mist at each county and city public school. This year, the H1N1 vaccine and regular seasonal flu vaccine will be given together in a combination dose. The two vaccines have not been manufactured separately. Therefore, whether you go to your private physician or through the health department, the Flu Mist will include both regular seasonal flu and H1N1 protection. The Health Department and the two school systems are teaming up early this year to get the vaccine to all students. Last year’s early onset of H1N1 prompted this move. Applications for the free Flu Mist will be available to complete on the school website and also sent home with each student by the end of August. All applications MUST be back into the school nurses by September 15th. The goal is to give the mist to everyone who signs up for it before the school systems leave for fall break on October 4th.
If you have any questions, please contact the Loudon County Health Department (458-2662) or Mary Harding, Coordinated School Health Lenoir City (988-2073) or Lois Snow, Coordinated School Health Loudon County (986-2036).
School Wide Positive Behavioral Supports
Several schools in the county are fully implementing School Wide Positive Behavioral Supports. Students are recognized and rewarded for behaviors that fall in line with the school rules and expectations. These behaviors and expectations are explicitly taught and reviewed often. At Eaton, students receive "Rocket Reward" tickets they can redeem in the classroom or the school prize cart, or students can save to attend three big "events."
The goal of this program is to reduce classroom disruptions and misbehaviors that impede learning.
